Tom Moore Launchpad Intern

Spring Showers, Bring May… Interns???

The Launchpad is excited to introduce our summer intern, William and Mary MBA candidate, Tom Moore. A native of Fort Lauderdale, Florida Tom has traded in his flip-flops for a tricorne hat. As a graduate of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University with a Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Studies, Tom was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant, U.S. Army Transportation Corps in May 2007. Since commissioning, he has moved ten times which includes three deployments in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) in Iraq and Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) in Afghanistan. Currently a Captain in the Army’s Logistics Corps, Tom’s current assignment is attending William & Mary’s Mason School of Business as an MBA candidate.

When asked how he decided to apply for an internship at The Launchpad, Tom answered, “When Uncle Sam eventually allows me to hang up my hat, I aspire to take the bold step and start my own business.” We thought his answer was spot on, so we made Tom official. As an intern at the Launchpad, Tom will assist in daily operations, events, and even roll up his sleeves and help all the businesses here. Eager to learn about start-ups and the entrepreneurial community, Tom has come to the right place at The Greater Williamsburg Launchpad.

NurseCall Launches to Provide Concierge Medical Care for Tourists and Business Travelers

Williamsburg, VA – Coinciding with the unofficial start of summer, NurseCall, a new concierge medical service for tourists and business travelers, launched this past Memorial Day. The 24-hour NurseCall hotline allows individuals and families to request medical care at hotels, timeshares and other vacation residences.

Instead of wasting precious time in an unfamiliar doctor’s office, crowded emergency room, or unknown urgent care facility, individuals seeking medical help can simply request an on-site visit by one of NurseCall’s registered nurses. All NurseCall nurses are experienced, licensed, bonded, insured, and background checked. The founder of NurseCall, Judy Bradby, has 28 years of experience as a registered nurse and understands that getting sick away from home is far worse than being sick at home.

“I’m a diehard traveller, I’ve been to many different countries and been unwell in more than a few. Vacation time is precious and when you don’t feel well, you just want it handled quickly and quietly so you can get right back to the reason you came in the first place.” said Judy, of the inspiration that led her to create NurseCall.

Among the diagnostic and first-aid services NurseCall provides are testing for strep throat, the flu, and even pregnancy. The service is private, professional, and discreet. Business travelers and busy families can take advantage of the 24-hour hotline, saving time and energy when schedules are tight.

But NurseCall isn’t just for sudden illness. What makes NurseCall so valuable to tourists and business travelers is their professional network of medical care providers and suppliers. For example, for those individuals who use medical devices on a daily basis, such as CPAP machines for sleep apnea, diabetic supplies, or prosthetic devices, one forgotten item left at home can mean serious medical trouble on vacation. NurseCall’s team can coordinate replacement parts or even help trouble-shoot devices that aren’t functioning correctly.

“I keep thinking of that poor woman who’s had a mastectomy and lost her luggage containing her specialty bra. She shouldn’t need to spend her trip feeling out of sorts and off balance. We can help her.” said Judy.

NurseCall celebrates their launch with a Williamsburg Chamber of Commerce ribbon-cutting ceremony this Saturday, May 30th at 10:00am. To attend, please send a message to office@nursecallinc.com, or call 757-775-7677.

Sneak Peek of the Greater Williamsburg Business Incubator

We identified the new space. We have approval from James City County, York County and the City of Williamsburg. We have a signed lease. We have designed the perfect incubator space.  Most recently, we have awarded the buildout that will transition our design into reality!

Extensive research and went into designing the perfect space and here’s a sneak peek of what our training and event space will look like.  We’ve mentioned in the past that we were keeping much of the openness of the existing space to promote conversation and collaboration.  Our training space will comfortably seat 30 attendees and leads to the two balcony doors at the top of the graphic.

Classes will be focused on what’s needed to successfully run your business.  Topics such as, Quickbooks, Social Media tactics and strategies, employee benefits and how to use WordPress to name a few.  We will be able to add, change and customize any type of training for our growing number of company members so they can stay ahead of what’s next in the business world.

We will also be able to remove the seating for networking and other business related events making the space multi purposed for several types of events.  We’re focused on events that extend beyond business card exchanges, we will be hosting events that add value and help solve real challenges faced by our members.

Stay tuned for our next update and sneak peak!  In the meantime, take advantage of our flexible memberships and our limited time pricing specials.
